On Sunday, January 27th, 2019, James L. Rayburn, 47, was a pedestrian on 2nd Avenue South near Lafayette Street when he was struck and killed.  The preliminary investigation showed that Rayburn stepped onto 2nd Avenue South a few feet outside of a crosswalk at 9:30 p.m. and was struck by a northbound 2016 Mercedes sedan being driven by David Peele, 64, of Nashville. Peele reported that Peele could not avoid the collision. No charges were placed against Peele.  Rayburn, of Lafayette, Tennessee, was carrying a case of beer when he was struck. Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine whether alcohol was a contributing factor.
