The pedestrian, Marlon Soliz-Hernandez of Thunderbird Dr, was struck and killed Saturday, 1/13/2018, at 6:40 p.m. on I-24 West near Hickory Hollow Parkway. He was 28 years old. The preliminary investigation shows that Soliz-Hernandez, for reasons unknown, stopped on the right shoulder of the Interstate and exited a Toyota Pickup truck. He appeared to have been either sitting or lying down in the far right lane of I-24 West when he was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Marian Akinsete, 23. Akinsete, of Smyrna, reported that she did not see Soliz-Hernandez prior to the collision. No charges are anticipated against Akinsete. Toxicology testing on a blood sample from Soliz-Hernandez will be performed by the medical examiner.
