Safety Between Point A and Point B

Roy W. Taylor

Roy W. Taylor's Story

DOD: November 22, 2018

The man hit by an SUV and fatally injured Thanksgiving evening on Old Hickory Boulevard at the I-40 off ramp near Frist Boulevard in Hermitage was a solicitor who was in the roadway apparently trying to retrieve something when he was struck. Roy W. Taylor, 46, died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Taylor was hit at approximately 5:15 p.m. by a 2013 Ford Explorer being driven by John Craighead, 69, of Old Hickory. The preliminary investigation shows that Craighead was exiting I-40 with a green light. Taylor is believed to have been in the inside traffic lane. Craighead said that he swerved into the grass median in an effort to avoid striking Taylor, but was not successful. A cardboard solicitation sign was found near him. Craighead was uninjured.
